Shopping
Today I was in a second hand book shop in a big hurry. I thought, hmmm, rather than browsing I’ll just ask the guy for his recommendation. After all, he has the privilege of working in a book shop so he ought to have read most of what’s in there. It’s compulsory, isn’t it?!
The conversation went something like:
Me: ‘Hi, I need a book for a trip and I'm a bit short for time. Read anything good?’
Him: ‘What do you like’
Me: ‘I don’t know…ummm’
He gives me THAT look.
Me: ‘Ok, ok, I can tell you what I don’t like? Sci Fi, fantasy, romance, thriller, mystery, horror, anything with lawyers/crime, historical fiction, anything which has the word ‘Trollope’, ‘Shrieve’, or Fabio on the cover… anything that’s badly written…umm’
Him: ‘Oh yeah, ok, so you want the Bookclub Section’
Apparently my list of dislikes has created a pretentious genre all of it’s own to match the pretentious list that it is. I had to laugh at myself. I am on track to be one of those annoying 55 year olds who complain in public about the lack of grammar on street signs.
I’ve ended up with Tim Winton’s ‘Shallows'. If it’s half as good as his latest 'Breathe' (and Asher sleeps) the flight time will zip by in a rural WA, coming-of-age, angst ridden blur. Nice.
have a great holiday! Back to the UK? How long for? lots of love xx

Street signs are meant to have grammar? I'm sure I've noticed... maybe...and cared.... certainly would have picked any spelling erors...
Have a great trip with your fellas (and Winton in your new 'non-genre' genre). Very excited for you and expect some lovely presents from each country you get to :) or maybe I'll just love looking at any gorgeous pics you take with your new camera (that hopefully can take them in black and white as desired!)
travel well,
xxkp (the other one)

hiya gang. ta much for the wishes! we will need every one of them. Asher is being....difficult...in Honkers at the mo. think he decided about an hour into the 7 hr trip here that he is not a fan of flying - who'd have guessed it - or travelling really at all. tomorrow we have the 13 hours to London. oh man. and a full plane. meanwhile HK is great. I really love this city. especially when we have family to see the sights with!
