We've been back from our month o/s for 24 hours, most of which have been spent asleep. Asher is still at it. The last 3 days of Europe '08 were too much. We checked out of our hotel in Estonia on Wed morning and did not sleep again until we arrived in Perth Friday. Getting home involved a ferry to Finland, then a bus, flight to HK, 15 hours in the HK airport and finally the flight to Aust. Asher had gastro (think vomiting and diarrhea) and I was getting over it. I think I have aged 10 years.
But we are home and back in love with the heat, clear sky, light days, cool evenings, space and quiet that is Perth. I never want to see the inside of a plane again (I reserve the right to retract that comment of course ;-). All future holidays will have to be camping at Nanga Bush.
Apart from the horrors of family-with-child travelling logistics being in London was a treat. The wedding of Pete and Jo went without a hitch - unless you count me falling off the podium in sari, but lets face it that was bound to happen - and we had hours of coffees and breakfasts and dinners and drinks with everyone. Our favourite way to enjoy people.
Now it's their turn to come to us.
Today is my grandparents 60th Wedding Anniversary. A big family affair with plenty of cucumber sandwhiches. G&G (as we call them) have been the stable base to our sometimes chaotic lives. We have all at some time sought refuge in the atomsphere of milk milo, beds with sheets, pudding with dinner, tea in teacups, compulsory church attendence, gentle acceptance, order and peace that is my grandparents.
It will be a great day.
